"Cora Snyder Evans Called to Final Rest" by son-in-law A. Edwin Fisher

Mrs. Cora Snyder Evans, widow of the former George Evans, one time sheriff of Summit county and resident of Park City for many years, died in Ventura, California on Thurday afternoon, April 9th. Funeral services were held from Barker's Funeral Parlors, Ventura, Saturday morning, April 11th and the remains were interred in Ivy Lawn cemetery at Ventura.

Early in the morning of July 23, 1860, in the outskirts of what is now the city of Ogden, Utah, a daughter was born to Mr. George Snyder and his wife, Elsie Jacob Snyder. The daughter of this prominent peioneer Utah family was named Eora Elsa. A short time after her birth, the family moved from Ogden to a point near Park City where they founded the town of Snyderville. It was here that Cora Elsa, under the care and guidance of her Chritian parents, grew to girlhood and womanhood, along with her brothers and sisters. Hers was a typical early Utah Mormon family and all the children schooled in the virtues of honesty and reverence for things worthwhile carried these traits with them all the way down life's pathway.

Married at the age of 23 to Mr. George Evans, also descendant of a Utah pioneer family, the couple lived for many years in Park City, where Mr. Evans engaged in business. Later he served Summit county as sheriff. To this couple wer born five children...three sons, all doctors: Dr. I.S. Evans, Price, Utah; Dr. A. Gordon Evans, Alhambra, California; Dr. Grant M. Evans, Ogden, Utah and two daughters..Irma (Mrs H. F. Orr), Ventura, California and Gertruce, (Mrs A. Edwin Fisher), Ventura, California.

During the past fourteen years, Mrs. Evans has resided in Ventura, where she maintained a modest home among the many flowers and rare plants she so dearly loved. Here she could also be near her two daughters and many relatives in Southern California.

She was an active member of the American Gegonia Socity, a member of the Order of Eastern Star and the Neighbors of Woodcraft.

She was ill only a short time..about three weeks. A week before her passing, we realized that she was going. We recalled the years when our mother never closed her eyes in sleep till we were all in bed on party nights till we came home, she often sat and read. We little thought about it then, when we were young and gay, how much mother worried when we children were away.

"Then came the afternoon we were called to gather roung her bed.

The children all are with you now, the kindly nurse said.

And in her eyes there gleamed again the old-time tender light.

That told she had been waiting just to know we were all right.

She smiled the old-familiar smile and silently prayed in God to keep

Us safe from harm throughout the years, and then she went to sleep.

The deceased leaves, besides her five children, the following, Six grandchildren, LoRene Evans, and Gordon Grant Evans, Ogden, Utah; Sergeant Frank Orr in the U.S. Army: Mrs. Gertrude Beach, Bakersfield, California; Patricia and Nancy Evans, Alhombra, California., three brothers, Dr. Creighton Snyder, Pasadena, California; Grant M. Snyder, and Brigg Snyder of Los Angeles, three sisters, Mrs. Luna Bowman, Mrs. Zina Sheppard, and Miss Jennie Snyder all of Los Angeles.
