Mr. James A Goff was born on Dec 26, 1827, in Jackson County Mississippi, and departed this life Nov. 4, 1907. His first marriage was to Miss Lydia Gray in 1849, with whom he spent a long and happy life until death separated them. To them were born eight children, eight of whom survive him.

His second marriage was to Mrs. Mary Coleman in 1883. He joined the Methodist church in Sept 1880. He lived a straight forward Christian life up to his death. He was known as 'Uncle Jimmy' by everybody in this county, and was spoken of only in the highest terms.

He was a soldier in the Civil War of 1860, and it was so fitting that six old Confederate soldiers should serve at his funeral as pall bearers. A great soldier for his country and the Christ whom he loved and served, a devoted husband and loving father has gone to his reward above.
May God sustain the faithful wife and children in their deep sorrow is the prayer of both pastor and friends.
He has seventy-three grandchildren and thirty-seven great grandchildren.
