Lorene Buchanan, 89, of Rushville, died Thursday, May 4, 2006, at Flatrock River Lodge.
Born Aug. 31, 1916, in Lewisville, she was the daughter of John and Ella (Brooks) Milligan, both deceased. She married William Sherman "Buck" Buchanan March 17, 1934; he preceded her in death Feb. 1, 1987.
Mrs. Buchanan lived most of her life in Rush County and was a 1934 graduate of Milroy High School. She had worked as a cook for the Arlington and Jackson school systems. She was also well known in the area as the "pie maker" for the Durbin Hotel, where she also served as a hostess in the 1970s.
Survivors include one daughter, Carol (Mrs. Fred) Powers of Morristown; 14 grandchildren; and 19 great-grandchildren.
Besides her parents and husband she was preceded in death by one son, David Buchanan; two daughters, Pamela Buchanan and Gloria McCane; and one sister.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Sunday at Hannegan Christian Church in Rush County with Warren Engel officiating. Burial will follow in Hannegan Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Saturday at Moster & Cox Mortuary in Rushville.
