"Retired Brick Firm Official Dies"
Philip B. Hawes, 70, retired sales manager for Western Brick Company, died at 3am on Monday at his home, 1511 N. Walnut Street, Danville, following an illness of a year (bladder cancer).
Mr. Hawes retired a year ago following more than 40 years with the brick company.
A Danville native, he was born December 14, 1889, the son of Albert S.W. Hawes and Fannie Bodeker Hawes.
On January 12, 1926, he married the former Dorothy Crain who survives along with one son in Oklahoma.
Three sisters preceded him in death.
A veteran of service with the US Army in Europe during World War I, he was a member of Curtis G. Redden Post 210, American Legion.
He also belonged to Danville Ledge 332, Benevolent Protective Order of Elks and was formerly a member of Anchor Masonic Lodge and the Danville Scottish Rite.
At the first Presbyterians church, he was a former trustee.
The body will be taken from the Berhalter Funeral Home to the First Presbyterians Church at noon Wednesday for services at 2pm conducted be the Rev. Ralph Smith with burial in Spring Hill Cemetery.
