"The sad intelligence reached this city last evening of the death of Rev. A. L. Brooks,for nine years pastor of the Presbyterian church at Danville, Ill. He died at his son's residence on Tuesday evening at the age of 61 years of bilious and intermittent fever, with which he had been afflicted for a period of four weeks.
The deceased was one of the noblest of men and was universally loved and respected by all who knew him. For three or four years previous to 1870 he was the beloved pastor of the Second Presbyterian church in Decatur, the members of that charge, worshiping in Powers Hall until the two congregations united.
Rev. Brooks was born in New York in 1818, and was a graduate of Hamilton college and Auburn Seminary in that state. During his ministry he has been stationed at Hamilton, Troy, Corning and Albion, New York, Bridgeport, Conn, Indianapolis,Ind, Chicago, Peoria, Decatur and Danville.
He leaves a wife and four children. They are Rev. Walter Brooks, now stationed at Trenton, N. J. Frank L. and Edward Brooks, residing at Danville and Lillian, now Mrs. Robert D. Russell, whose home is at Jacksonville, Ill.
