Manning -- Ernest L. Manning, age 86, passed away Wednesday evening, August 29, 2001 at a local hospital in Albuquerque. He was born May 26, 1915 in Blacksburg, SC. He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Ida Z. Manning; daughter, Elaine Russell and husband, Bob; grandson, Michael Van Sickler and wife, Sabrina; granddaughter, Kimberly Wolfe and husband, Jody; Glen Russell, Ron Russell; five great-grandchildren, Tyler, Martin and Brittany Wolfe, Kaylee Van Sickler, Jasmine and Ava Russell; also many nieces and nephews. Ernest was a member of the Army Air Force from July 18, 1941 to November 27, 1945. He was a member of the 55th BMBDR training squadron. He was Crew Chief on B-18?s, AT-11s and B29s. He was employed by Sandia Corp as a layout operator and retired in 1973. He loved to fish and join his friends on their frequent treasure seeking trips from the Palo Duro Senior Citizens Center. He will be dearly missed by his family and friends. The family would like to gratefully acknowledge all the members of the nursing staff and physicians of Presbyterian Kaseman Hospice Program for their compassion and support during this difficult time. A Rosary will be recited Friday, August 31, 2001 at 7:00 p.m. in the Palm Chapel of the Strong-Thorne Mortuary, 1100 Coal Ave. S.E. The Mass will be celebrated Saturday, September 1, 2001 at 10:00 am in St. Therese Little Flower Catholic Church, 3424 4th Street NW. Interment will follow in the Sunset Memorial Park at Menual and Edith. Pallbearers will be Moe Gutierrez, Bill Stroba, Richard Rowe, Warren Flood, Daniel Archuleta and Eddie Bernal. The arrangements for Ernest L. Manning are under the direction of Strong-Thorne Mortuary.
