Dora Maude Satterfield, nee Purinton, born 12 Oct. 1883 at Independence, Preston County, WV, into what was apparently a family that valued education. Her paternal Grandfather was an M.D., one of her uncles was a dentist and another was a president of West Virginia University. To this day there is a substantial building existing at WVU bearing the inscription "Daniel Boardman Purinton Hall". I was told by my father that this building was donated to WVU by his great uncle. Another of her brothers, George, became a geologist. I don't know anything more about her family, other than seeing a few pictures of her parents. The picture that I remember shows a short white haired lady, wearing a long black dress and a gentleman with a long white beard, wearing a black suit, and looking very stern. I believe that they were farmers, living in the small community of Independence, WV, but don't know for sure. Dora died when I was a child, and I don't have many of memories of her, only that she was a religious, cheerful lady who played with her grand children.
