John Nevin Hussey, 23, Of Near Sycamore Instantly Killed Mishap Near Lemert
John Nevin Hussey, 23, of two miles north of Sycamore, was instantly killed when the car in which he was a passenger struck the side of a moving freight train at the edge of Lemert on route 262 Monday night about 9 o'clock.
George Hayman, 22, also of near Sycamore, driver of the car, is in critical condition in Mercy hospital at Tiffin. Hayman sustained a double fracture of the skull and a broken nose.
The impact of the car against the train, derailed one coal car. The trucks of the freight car were knocked completely off the track. The crossing is regarded as a treacherous one and particularity so after night when the lights of a car fail to reveal a moving train until the vehicle almost reaches the tracks. The railroad crossing where the mishap occurred is a branch of the New York Central Lines.
Hussey and Hayman were returning to their homes near Sycamore when the mishap occurred. Hussey, who was killed outright, received a badly mangled face and skull. Hayman was rushed to Mercy hospital in the E. W. Moore ambulance from Sycamore.
Hayman is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Arnold Hayman, of north of Sycamore.
The body of young Hussey has been removed to the Moore funeral parlor in Sycamore, from where private rites will be conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday in charge of Rev. Charles F. Brouse. Interment will be made in Mexico cemetery.
