Stahl Resident Loses
Dying man attempt to reach bedside of dying mother, Mrs. George Young

A dying man raced with death to see his mother before she died, but lost. He was Tom Young, who arrived last Monday night from Texas where he had gone for his health. His mother, Mrs. Matilda Young, had died the Saturday before he arrived. It was indeed a sad case.
Tom was brought back in a motor car, knowing that the ride probably would mean his end. He is suffering from tuberculosis and is reported in a hop0eless condition. He wanted to see his mother before the end came, and decided to make the race regardless of the consequences. Tom long had been a resident of Stahl neighborhood.
The mother, Mrs. George Young, left to mourn her departure more than one hundred grand and great grandchildren. She was a pioneer woman in this country, coming to Missouri when a small girl with her parents, some three or four score years ago.
The following is a brief account of her life:
Matilda E. Lawson, daughter f G.B. and Levina Lawson, was born in Tennessee, September 16, 1853, and departed this life March 2, 1935, being 81 years, 5 months and 16 days of age.
When a small girl she came to Missouri and settled with her parents not far from her immediate home.
She was united in marriage with George W. Young in September 1875, and to this union ten children were born, four of whom preceded her in death, George G., Eliza Jane Ruggles, John A., Hester Lloyd and Jesse. The husband, beside he following children are left to mourn her departure: Isaac of Flint, Mich.; Nancy Albright of Moberly, Tom of Texas, Edward George of Canyon Co., Idaho and Samuel D. of Gem Co., Idaho.
She had 63 grandchildren, 47 great grandchildren and one great great grandchild. Of these, 15 grandchildren and seven great grandchildren preceded her in death.
She also leaves a sister, Mrs. Mary Sneed of Kirksville, MO. and two brothers, Sam of Cheyenne, Wyoming and John Lawson of Tacoma, Washington, besides a host of other relatives and friends.
When a girl she united with the Baptist church and in the year of 1885 she united with the church of Christ and continued in that faith until the end.
She was a devoted companion, loving mother and always ready to lend a helping hand. Besides her own family she reared two sets of grandchildren and she will be sadly missed by all.
The funeral was conducted Monday afternoon, March 4, 1935, by Dayton L. Lewis, and the body was laid to rest in the Cox Cemetery in the tomb built several years ago.
