Peter was the third child and only son of Richard "Dick" Lemmerhirt and Alice Bassmann Lemmerhirt.
Peter was a longtime resident of Madison, Wisconsin, who grew up in Kohler, graduating from Kohler High School, class of 1975. He studied at the University of Wisconsin-Sheboygan before matriculating at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, where he was awarded a Bachelor of Music degree in Composition, and continued on to study Chemical Engineering.
Peter worked for many years for the University of Wisconsin System: at the UW Law School Library, the Deparment of the History of Medicine, and the University of Wisconsin Extension. He went on to work in the private sector, for over a decade, in Civil Engineering, before returning to work for the State of Wisconsin, at the Department of Corrections.
Among Peter's avocations were computer programming, politics, and golf. Peter was a talented and accomplished musician (baritone, trombone, flute, piano, voice), and loved music, being equally well-versed whether classical, jazz, modern, or pop.
Peter loved cats and rescued many. He was intelligent and kind, a great conversationalist, and was well-liked wherever he went.
Peter, you brought much joy to those who knew and loved you.
