Death of Mr. W. B. Dupree - Mr. William B. DuPree died at his residence in Byron on the 22d inst., Tuesday of last week. He was in the 80th year of his age, and one of the most highly esteemed citizens of Houston county. Quiet and unassuming in manner, he was thoroughly honest, and true to his convictions of right and duty. We are not informed concerning his religious professions, but his conduct was in accord with the rules of strict morality, and his walk and conversation were upright and just. A true friend, a good neighbor, an excellent man. He leaves a number of sons and daughters and several gc to mourn his death, and in their bereavement many friends throughout the county tenderly sympathize. Our Byron correspondent says: On last Tuesday, the 22nd inst., a deep sadness overspread our entire town and community when the death of our beloved citizen and fellow townsman, Mr. W. B. DuPree, was made known. Mr. DuPree was one of Byron's oldest and best citizens, and had been in declining health for one or more years. He lived to a sweet old age, and had he lived until September next, would have been 80 years old, which is 10 years more than the allotted time to man. General debility seems to have been the cause of his death. His life was one worthy of example and remembrance, honest and upright in all his dealings, kind, generous and true to his neighbors and friends, an a man whose integrity was to be questioned by none. Though a member of no church at the time of his death, he strongly endorsed the Primitive Baptist doctrine, and was a frequent visitor of all churches. He was no doubt true to the cause of our Redeemer, an lived a life and died a death in faith essential to a true Christian spirit. His interment took place at the cemetery in our town on Wednesday eve, following, at 3 o'clock, at which there was a large following of relatives and friends. Though his body lies molding beneath the sod, his spirit has ascended, and at the general resurrection day we trust it will be given a place on the right hand of the Great White Throne. His wife having preceded him across the River of Life, to await his coming under the shade of the trees, our beloved friend leaves behind him Mr. R. J. DuPree, a merchant of our town, Col. C. M. DuPree, of Inverness, Fla., Mr. Jim DuPree, of Rome, Ga., Mr. Bennett DuPree, of Kathleen, this county, Mrs. Charles Dupree, of Fort Valley, Misses Fannie and Mattie DuPree, of this place, to all of whom we extend our deepest sympathy in their sad bereavement. X. Byron, Ga., 05-28-1894
