Robert Leslie Aldrich, 71, of Freeland, beloved father, grandfather, husband, brother and son, passed away on Sunday, April 23, 2006, at his home.
He was born on Feb. 1, 1935, to the late Leslie and Viola (Young) Aldrich in Roscommon. He married Sally Mapes on March 16, 1956; she predeceased him on July 30, 2000. Bob had been employed by General Motors for 31 years, working mainly in plant 7 until his retirement. He also worked for the Freeland School District driving bus #5 for 15 years following his retirement. He was loved by all the kids, who called him "Bus Driver Bob". Bob was a founding member of Cub Pack 3309 in Freeland and was a prominent leader within the scouting program, with Troop 323 for 21 years. He helped many young men and women succeed in life. He was an avid gardener and enjoyed spending several hours each day on his flower and vegetable gardens. Bob's greatest joy came from his children and grandchildren.
Bob was predeceased by one daughter, Sally Katherine. Funeral services will be held Thursday, April 27, 2006, 1 p.m. at the Freeland Chapel of the Cunningham-Taylor Funeral Homes, Inc. The Rev. Scott Sessler will officiate, with burial to follow in Westside Cemetery, Freeland.
Bob's family will receive friends at the Freeland Chapel on Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. and Thursday from 12 p.m. until the time of the service.
