Navy HM2 Qi was assigned to Fourth Light Armored Reconnaissance Battalion, Marine Expeditionary Brigade-Afghanistan. He was killed when a suicide bomber attacked while he was on foot patrol. Xin was originally from Cordova, Tennessee and was a former student at the University of Texas in Austin. On June 8, 2006, he joined the Navy and cut short his education to volunteer for deployment. He had only been in Afghanistan for three months on his first deployment when he was killed. Xin was a dedicated sailor whose awards include the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal.
