Another Pioneer Gone
John Lang was born in Indiana, October 31, 1820, and departed this life March 6, 1913, at St. Joseph, Mo., at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Samuel Strickland, where he had made his home the past fourteen years. He was married to Paralee Taylor December 11, 1839, at Danville, Illinois. They moved to Iowa in 1841. To this union were born nine children, four girls and five boys. These who preceded him in death are; Mrs. George Weiford, Mrs. George Jones, Mrs. Alfred Huddleson, and G V Lang who died in infancy. Those who survive him are, Mrs. Samuel Strickland of St. Joseph, Missouri, D.G. Lang of Ottumwa, Iowa, Taylor, David, and Wallace of Floris, Iowa, and one brother George, of Bismark, Illinois. He is also survived by thirty grandchildren and a number of great grandchildren. All the living children were present at the funeral which was held at the home of his son Taylor, who resides on the old home place, near Floris.
Interment was made in the Rouch cemetery.
Mr. Lang enlisted in the Civil War in Co. B. 30th Iowa Infantry, joining his regiment at Kennesaw Mountain, going trhough the Atlantic campaign after which he marched with Sherman to the sea.
Father Lang lived to the ripe old age of ninety-two years, and being ask ed how it was with him, he said; "I am willing and waiting the summons home".
