Born in Ukraine, Oleg got the German citizenship on April 1, 2004. He joined the HSV Hamburg as a professional handball player and was chosen for the German national team. He played 38 National Games and was an important support for his 2007 World Champion Team.

Besides that career, Oleg was a PE teacher who loved to instruct students.

In September 2003, Oleg was first diagnosed with skin cancer, but after a surgery and an 18-months therapy he seemed to have overcome that terrible disease.

In March 2008 Oleg confirmed that the cancer had returned. He decided to continue playing handball, as he did not mean to give in and let the terrible disease win.

However, his physical condition worsened, and on August 9, 2009, he played his last handball game ever.

In autumn he returned to Ukraine, as he felt that he needed his family around, to give him mental backing. Despite all the attempts to save this great man, he sadly lost his brave battle, leaving to mourn him his wife Kataryna and his 6-year old son Nikita, a large family, his Hamburg team comrades and the German National Team.
