Son of John Berry "Jackie" Benton and Sarah Hamilton/Benson. He was killed in the Civil War. He was buried in a mass confederate grave on the battlefield of Perryville KY so his actual burial place is unknown.
He married Anna Eliza Latimer on 11/1850 in Georgia.

I have pension records that state he was shot through the heart at the battle of Perryville KY and died instantly on the battlefield. He was attached to 41st GA regiment Co. B Kennesaw Infantry aka the Kennesaw invincibles. He was in the 1st division, right wing, of the Army of Mississippi Under the command of General George Maney. The right wing suffered the heaviest loss during the battle of Perryville but they fought hard and gained over MILE in occupied enemy territory capturing union cannons and whipping starkweathers line.
