The Upton News-Letter no. 22 July 12,1918 page 1 City: Upton

"Died, at the home of Mrs. Lizzie Paxton in Upton, Saturday, July 6, Lindley E. Vernon, aged fifty-six years. Deceased was born in *Maringo, *Indiana in *1862, there spending his boyhood days, moving to Missouri when about eighteen years old. He followed the westward call and located a few years in the state of Nebraska, where he spent about ten years in gaining a livelihood. In 1884 "Dick" as he was always known here, moved to Wyoming, spending the remaining years of his life in this section of the state.
Thus has another name been stricken from our rapidly decreasing honor roll of pioneers. He was the soul of good fellowship; his ways were free and hearty as are those who have become imbued with the whole-souled Western spirit. He made a host of friends during the years he made this country his home, and whose friendship has ever been warmly reciprocated. Much has been taken from the bereaved relatives to whom the sincerest sympathy is extended by the News-Letter and its circle of readers."

***Obituary corrections: Lindley E. Vernon was born in Pleasant Grove Township, Marion County, Iowa, in August 1858. The remainder of the News-Letter obituary has not been verified by family history as of this time. During the 1900 U.S. Census, Sundance, Crook County, Wyoming, Lindley was living with his aunt Lizzie E. Davis and three of her children, James, Cecil, and Flossie.
