Demma Jean Whiting 93 of Piney View, WV passed away Wednesday, January 13, 2010.
Born October 13, 1916, she is the daughter of the late Lester and Demma Jesse Neal.
Demma enjoyed reading her bible with her family and friends and sewing. She made a lot of her own clothes for kids. She loved spending time and taking care of her family. Demma was a homemaker and of the Baptist faith. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Prosperity.
In addition to her parents, Demma is preceded in death by her husband William Edward Whiting, Sr.; son Thomas Whiting; sisters Helen Nichols, Wanda Keener and Josephine Christopher; brothers Rev. James Neal and Harry Neal.
Those left to cherish her memory her son Bill Whiting and wife Shirley of Stevensville, MD; daughter Twila Adkins of Madison, WV; sister Carol Scherf and husband Lou of Harriman, TN; 11 grandchildren, Sally Adkins, Denise White, Chris Price, Neal Adkins, Sheri Carter, Ritchie Whiting, Kelli Haynes, Steven Whiting, Kimberly Williams, Jason Whiting, Becky Harmon; 25 great-grandchildren and 3 great-great-grandchildren, plus one was born on the day Demma passed away and one is on the way.
Services will be held at 11:00 AM Monday, January 18, 2010 at Blue Ridge Funeral Home, Beckley with Pastor George Wood officiating.
Burial will follow at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens.
Friends may gather with the family Sunday from 6 – 8 PM at the funeral home.
The family asks that memorials may be made to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation in her memory.
