Sylvia is buried as Shields, but her name at death was Bell.

Sylvia Patton Shields-Bell, of Maryville, passed away on January 19, 2010, at her home. She was a member of Calvary Baptist Church, Alcoa, and retired from Bell South in 1972 with 25 years of service. She and husband, Ernest Shields, along with Manager, David Borden, were long-time members of the business community as owners of Allied Electric Company in Alcoa.
Sylvia was preceded in death by husbands, Ernest D. Shields of Maryville, and Woodrow Bell of Friendsville; parents, Tom and Nellie Patton; brother, Cedric Patton of Kingston; and sisters, Zona June Maples and Blanche Gatlin, both of Alcoa.

Survivors include: brother, Jim Patton of MI; sisters and brothers-in-law, Billie and Orvin Anderson and Dorothy and Bob Miller of Alcoa; Kaye and Charley Kennedy of Vonore; brother-in-law, Robert Maples, Maryville; and sister-in-law, Betty Patton, Kingston. Survivors also include nieces and nephews, John Patton and Jeff and Cheri Patton; Dan Anderson; Steve and Sharon Anderson; Susan and Tim Mullaly; Pam Maples; Elaine and Leonard Walker; Anna Ruth Cooper; Cathy and Ray Richesin; Mike and Ona Miller; Freddie and Steve Dykes; Bobby and Debbie Miller; Sandra and Robert Durden; Janice and Eldra Best; Billy and Diane Anderson; Debra Robb; Jan Patton; Doug and Danielle Patton; Clayton Gatlin; Sherri and Rick Riden; Chris Kennedy; god children, Christy Fugate and Kim Fugate Wynn. Sylvia also is survived by her most beloved and adored long-time friends, co-workers, and care givers, David and Peggy Borden. Too numerous to mention here, Sylvia had many dear and beloved friends, especially Woodrow's children, Woody, Jr. and, Sandy Bell and Betty Caldwell; Angie and Gary Tipton; Mary and Jim Lawson; Dan and Vickie Fugate; Bill Wallace; and employees and customers at Allied Electric. Sylvia's family is most grateful to David and Peggy Borden for the many years they provided devoted and loving care to Sylvia. Also, special thanks to Angie Tipton and Mary Lawson for all the kindness and love they showed as they cared for Sylvia during her illness.

Funeral services will be at 7:00 p.m. Thursday in McCammon-Ammons-Click Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. John Franklin officiating. Family and friends will meet at 10:00 a.m. Friday at Sherwood Memorial Gardens for the interment service. The family will receive friends from 5-7:00 p.m. Thursday at McCammon-Ammons-Click Funeral Home, Maryville.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, Eastern TN Chapter, 2270 Sutherland Avenue, Suite 202, Knoxville, TN 37919 or to St. Mary's Hospice, 7447 Andersonville Pike, Knoxville, TN 37938.
