Joan M. (nee Morris) Golub, 71, of West Chester, formerly of Plymouth Meeting, died Sunday, Sept. 16, 2007, at Chester County Hospital.
She was married to her husband, Albert J. Golub of West Chester, for 52 years.
Born May 27, 1936, in Philadelphia, she was the daughter of the late Edward and Catherine Stewart Morris.
She was a graduate of John Bartram High School and a homemaker.
She was a former Bulletin Beacon Beauty Queen. She was a past president for St. Paul's of Norristown Ladies Auxiliary.
Joan was a homeroom assistant at Plymouth Elementary School.
She and her husband were active in the Prison Ministry together. They sponsored a prisoner from Trenton State Prison during his adjustment period.
She coordinated with her husband the Marriage Encounter Program for the Family Life Bureau of the Archdiocese of Philadelphia. Joan was honored to be selected and received ‘The Chapel of Four Chaplains' award for community service.
She served as a lector and Eucharist minister. She attended daily Mass and was a daily communicant. She also visited the homebound and Sunrise Assisted Living Facility in Westtown.
Joan was active in ‘Pro Life' and strongly supported the Right to Life positions regarding sanctity of life from the womb to the grave.
She was a sponsor of a Guatemalan youngster for the past 15 years.
Joan was a member of the ‘Scapular Guild' and died with the scapular around her neck.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by her son, Christopher M. Golub of Denver, Colo.; daughters, Dianne G. and husband, Robert Lamina, of Wayne, Lisa M. Heffernan of Berlin, N.J., and Stacia L. and husband, Doug German, of Malvern; also nine grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
A funeral Mass will be held on Friday, Sept. 21, at 11 a.m. at St. Maximilian Kolbe Church, 15 E. Pleasant Grove Road, West Chester, with visitation on Friday from 9 to 11 a.m. at the church.
Interment will be in St. Agnes Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in Joan's memory may be made to either the American Cancer Society, 1615 West Chester Pike, West Chester, PA 19382; or St. Maximilian Kolbe Church, 15 E. Pleasant Grove Road, West Chester, PA 19382.
