ELDRIDGE, Iowa -- Albert J. Schreiber, 60, of Eldridge, and formerly of Andrew, died Sunday morning, Jan. 17, 2010, at Genesis Medical Center, East Campus, Davenport.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 21, at Carson & Son Funeral and Cremation Services, Maquoketa, where friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. today. Burial will be in the Andrew (Iowa) Cemetery.
He was born on June 26, 1949, in Maquoketa, son of Walter C. Schreiber and Myrtle B. (Hankemeier) Schreiber. He was a 1967 graduate of Andrew Community High School.
He married Karen Sino on March 7, 1971, in Maquoketa. He married Cindy Reed on March 7, 1992, in Bellevue.
Albert had first farmed in the Andrew area and also drove a school bus for the Andrew School District. He then started Prairie Farms and began hauling milk in the Jackson and Dubuque County areas until 1998. He then sold his milk route and began working for AgVantage FS as a transportation specialist. He started in Miles and currently was working in Welton. He and his wife Cindy moved to Eldridge in 2004.
Albert loved camping at Spruce Creek, Scott County Park and the West Lake areas. He also enjoyed house boating and fishing, especially for catfish. Horseback riding was another one of his passions as well as following the Iowa Hawkeyes.
Albert was described as having a "big heart." He was genuine and humble, a behind-the-scenes kind of guy who didn't want any recognition, but the first to lend a hand. Albert's quiet spirit will live forever in our hearts.
Albert loved his family.
Although he and Cindy did not have any children together, they did have a niece, a nephew, a great-niece and twin great-nephews who were very special to them.
Surviving are his wife, Cindy Schreiber, of Eldridge; daughters, Melissa (Albert) Reiff, of Hazel Green, Wis., and Heather (Scott) Freebairn, of Ottawa, Ill.; seven grandchildren, Abigail, Sam, Erin and Nate Reiff, and Emma, Kara and Cole Freebairn; his mother and father-in-law, Kenny and Mona Reed, of Bellevue; a sister-in-law, LuAnn (Steve) Beck, of Bellevue; a brother-in-law, Randy (Trisha) Reed, of De Witt; a niece, Jenny (Chris) Hunter, of Bettendorf; a nephew, Matt Beck (Scott), of Bettendorf; a great-niece, Cami Hunter; two twin great-nephews, Alex and Brady Hunter; and a sister, Correne Cornelius, of Oak Harbor, Ohio.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and his faithful companion, his dog, Tuffy.
