Johann Hermann Georg and his wife, Anna Katherine Witte, came to America in 1896 with their 4 children, Adolph (14 yr.), Charlie (12 yr.), John (10 yr.) and Annie (5yr.). His mother, Anna Ruseler Wessels, came with them on the ship, S.S. Crefeld. They left Bremen, Germany on October 12, 1896 and arrived in Galveston, Texas on November 7, 1896. They lived with Heinrich (his half brother) and Helene Wessels in Trinity Hill (just west of La Grange) until they got their own home in West Point.
