Son of Shelton White and Mildred Terrell Clark, David S. White, Sr. attained the rank of Major, possibly in connection with the Cherokee Indian Wars which were fought in Georgia prior to their removal in 1838. He married Catherine E. Rucker in 1834 at Elbert County, Georgia. He subsequently moved with other family to Panola County, Mississippi where he owned a plantation adjacent to his brother, John H. White, a few miles west of the town of Como. Both his daughter Martha and his wife Catherine died of tuberculosis, known at the time as consumption. Catherine was just shy of 30 at the time of her death. By the time of the 1850 census, he was alone on his plantation except for his two daughters, Sarah Shelton and Margaret Rucker White, and the plantation overseer. Shortly thereafter, however, he married Mariah Ruffin Price, widow of Edwin Price. They had a son in 1853, David Clark White. By the time of his death, he left a will which provided for his new wife and all three of his remaining children. His grave is not marked, but his will dated 1859 stated that he desired to be buried in the same graveyard as his wife Catherine, father (Shelton White) and brother (John Henry White).
