| Birth: | Jul. 21, 1864 | | Death: | Oct. 29, 1947 |  Presidential First Lady. President Grover Cleveland was a bachelor during the first fifteen months of his first term in office. His sister Rose was the official White House Hostess. Grover took a bride, Twenty one year old Frances Folsom, extremely beautiful, and twenty seven years younger then the President. They were married in the White House and she became the youngest First Lady in American history plus the only presidential couple to marry at a White House ceremony. Frances 'Frank' was immediately accepted by the American public and soon earned nationwide respect as a great hostess, a loyal wife and a capable mother. Grover Cleveland was defeated in his quest for reelection after his first term. The family moved to New York City where their first child Ruth was born whereby the Nestle Candy Company named their candy bar in her honor. His unprecedented reelection returned them to the White House where two other children arrived with the birth of Esther and Marion. After his second term, the family retired to Princeton, New Jersey and Frances bore two more sons. Frances Folsom was born in Buffalo, New York, the daughter of Grover Cleveland's law partner. She was educated at Well's College at which time Grover began to express a romantic interest by corresponding and sending her flowers. On a visit to President Cleveland at the White House, he proposed marriage and she accepted. She was at his side when he passed away at their mansion 'Westland' located at Princeton. He joined his first daughter 'Baby Ruth" who had died two years earlier, in the family plot at Princeton Cemetery. She remained a figure of note and continued to be active in the community. Five years later, still a young women, she remarried. Frances died at the age of 84 and was interred beside her husband. Her alma mater, Well's College named their library in her honor.
