Elinor Elaine Smith, better known by her nickname, Jackie, Dunnegan, died Friday, August 01, 2008 at her home. She was born at French Camp, CA, her father, Joseph Jacopetti, was born in Toscano, Italy and her mother, Mary Theresa (Benedetto) Jacopetti was born in Torino, Italy.
Jackie met Roy Smith during World War II. He was a military policeman in the U. S. Army and she was with McClelland Air Force Base in Sacramento where Air Force planes were repaired. They were married the third day after they met on August 8, 1942 in Reno, Nevada. Jackie then transferred to the Signal Corp where she became a PBX and Teletype operator tracking all troop movement. She is a life member of the Disabled American Veterans.
After her fight with breast cancer, she became a poet voted into the International Society of Poets in Washington, D. C. Her poetry is in several anthologies in the Library of Congress archives.
Moving from California to a farm north of Dunnegan in 1977, she worked side by side with her husband, Roy, on the farm. Roy preceded her in death December 14, 2007.
Her parents and a brother, Guy Jacopetti, also preceded her in death.
Survivors include 3 half-sisters, Betty "Shug" Jacopetti Cloud, Jo Ann Jacopetti Boto, and Diane Jacopetti; 1 half-brother, Jerry Jacopetti; her care givers, Mark Means and Marion Williams;a cousin, Ed Benedetto, Sacramento, CA; and several nieces and nephews.
Graveside services will be 10:30 AM Monday, August 4, 2008 at Plum Grove Cemetery, south of Humansville under the direction of Murray Funeral Home, Humansville. Memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society.
