Elmer Cheek, 61, pioneer Hall County resident, died unexpectedly Saturday. He was hunting with his two sons, Kenneth and Billy, when he became ill and was dead on arrival at a local hospital.

A painter and carpenter, Mr. Cheek had lived in Hall County 46 years. He was born May 31, 1900, at Itasca, Hill Co., Texas.

Jesse Elmer Cheek was united in marriage with Miss Maggie Irene Gwin on Dec. 31, 1923, at Clarendon.

He was a member of the First Methodist Church.

Funeral services were held at 3 p.m. Sunday from the First Methodist Church with Rev. O.B. Herring, pastor, officiating. Assisting with the service was Rev. Fern Miller, pastor of the First Baptist Church, and Rev. M.O. Evans, pastor of the Baptist Church at Holiday.

Interment was in Fairview Cemetery with services under the direction of Spicer Funeral Home.

Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Elmer Cheek; two sons, Kenneth S. and Billy G. Cheek, both of Amarillo; two daughters, Mrs. Doyce E. Gregory of Amarillo and Mrs. Bengy Godfrey of Memphis; 11 grandchildren and one great-grandchild; his parents, Mr. and Mrs. S.J. Cheek of Hico; one brother, Bo Cheek of Perryton; three half-brothers, S.J., Jr., Roy and Gerry Cheek, all of Hico.

Pall bearers were Joe Wood, Charlie Murff, A.C. Carter, H.L. Gillespie, Everett Paschall and Garland Moore.

Honorary pall bearers were Joe Williams, Robert Galloway, W.P. Baten, Sr., Mack Richards, Cal Holland, J.C. Johnson, James Jeffers, Dewey Myers and Edwin Murff.
