Mires K. Bonham Obituary, March 25, 1932, Anaconda Standard

MIRES K. BONHAM FATALLY INJURED BY FALLING TREE
Heavy Wind Blows Timber to One Side, crushing Life From Anacondan
MAKES DESPERATE EFFORT TO ESCAPE
Body to Be Sent to Washington for Burial: No Inquest to Be Held.

Heavy wind, which reached gale proportions in the mountains west of the city, yesterday caused the death of Mires K. Bonham, 48, Lime Quarry. Mr. Bonham was crushed beneath a tree, blown from its line of fall toward Mr. Bonham, who was unable to escape.
The tree was being felled by Winfred Matthews and Charles A. Frost, proprietors of a woodyard at 108 Hickory Street, on a mountainside six miles west and one mile south of the city about 10 o'clock yesterday morning.
Mr. Bonham, who had been helping them, was trimming a fallen tree out of the line of fall of the one which Matthews and Frost were cutting. The terrific wind blew the tree from north to east, in Mr. Bonham's direction. He made a desperate effort to gain the protection of a nearby tree, but was caught by a heavy branch and crushed to death.
Frost remained with the body while Matthews came to the city to notify Coroner Frank Gubbins. Mr. Gubbins and P.J. Finnegan, undertaker, brought the body to the city. The coroner investigated the case and announced that there will be no inquest, the death being accidental.
It was the second time that Mr. Bonham had helped Matthews and Frost cut wood. They called for him about 9 o'clock yesterday morning at his Lime Quarry home.
Mr. Bonham was born in Salem, Oregon, on January 15, 1884. He came to Anaconda from Cheney, Spokane County, Washington, in 1929 and was employed by the Phoenix Utility company. Until a few months ago he worked for the Anaconda Copper Mining Company.
He is survived by his widow, Mrs. L. C. Bonham; three daughters, Mrs. D.V. Smith, Lime Quarry; Miss Margaret Bonham, Anaconda; Mrs. Mary Imbler, Cheney, Washington, and two sons, Carl and John Bonham, Anaconda. He also is survived by several cousins, including one in Philipsbrug.
The body is at the P.J. Finnegan company funeral parlors, from where it will be forwarded to Spokane, Washington, for interment in the family plot in Lance Hills cemetery, south of Cheney, Spokane County, Washington.
