The Rev. Noah Wengert Brechbiel, 81, of 123 Snider Ave., retired minister of the United Brethren Church after 50 years of service, died Saturday at 4:15 p.m. at the Waynesboro Hospital.

He had suffered from a heart condition since February when he was hospitalized for 11 days. Following his return home he was limited in his activities.

Early Friday he suffered a heart attack and was admitted to the hospital.

He was born at Newburg, a son of the late Samuel and Elizabeth Wengert Brechbiel. In his early life he was employed by local farmers. He attended the Otterbien School.

Following his marriage to Charlotte Ann Baker May 16, 1905, he was employed by the Pennsylvania Railroad on a section gang.

He entered the lay ministry in 1906 and served in Christian Education at the Mt. Pleasant Church, Scotland, until 1919, when he was presented to the board of examiners of the Pennsylvania Conference of the ministers and served six years in this status as pastor, one year at the Mt. Lena Church and five years at the Blue Rock Church.

In 1925 he was ordained as a minister and served these pastorates: Greencastle, five years; Waynesboro, 12 years, and State Line, 17 years.

Following his retirement he returned to Greencastle for three years. Since 1957 he lived in Waynesboro and served as a supply pastor until his illness in February.

He was influential in the establishment of the Milton Wright Home for Children and the Piney Mountain Home for the Aged. He served on the boards and was president of the institutions for many years.

He served the church ast Rhodes Grove Camp for many years in the summer training of Christian Education personnel.

At the time of his death he was a member of the Otterbein United Brethren Church of Greencastle.

He and Mrs. Brechbiel celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary May 16.

In addition to his widow he is survived by these children: Walter E. Brechbiel, Cumberland, Md.; Mrs. Benjamin F. Kizer, Phillipsburg, N. J., Clifford E. Brechbiel and Mrs. Roy F. Leckron, both of Waynesboro; 10 grandchildren, four great grandchildren and three stepbrothers and three stepsisters, Harvey Brechbiel, Samuel Brechbiel, Mrs. Clara Rosenberger and Mrs. Beulah Cordell, all of Waynesboro; William Brechbiel, Carlos, Minn., and Mrs. Nellie Obbits, Hagerstown.
