He moved to Stonewall county as a child. He was a graduate of Jayton High school and attended Tarleton State College, Robertson was a farmer and rancher. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church, where he was a former adult Sunday School teacher. He was a member of the Texas Farm Bureau and active in campaigns to promote voter registration. Robertson was a former member of the Peacock School Board.
