Walter Shinn, 79, a pioneer of the Benton County, was born Feb. 8, 1888, at Wisdom, Mo., the son of William and Elizabeth Shinn, and passed away Tuesday evening about 8:30, June 20, 1967, at his home following a stroke he suffered.

Walter grew to manhood in the Hogles Creek Community, and on March 18, 1909 he was united in marriage to Edith Breshears. They spent their entire life in the Bentonville-Fairfield communities, living on the same farm for the part 48 years. To this union 4 sons and 3 daughters were born. 2 daughters, Gladys and Mary preceded him in death at a young age. 1 son, Howard, lost his life in the service of his country during the World War II, at the age of 22, in the year 1944. Surviving are his wife, Edith, of the home, 1 daughter, Mrs. Geneva Adams, of Belton, Mo., and 3 sons, Basil, of Kansas City, Mo., of Independence, and Hubert Shinn of Fairfield. Also surviving are 7 grandchildren, and 3 great children. 1 sister, Mrs. Maude Smith of Clinton, MO., other relatives and a host of friends.

In 1924 Mr. Shinn joined L.P. Union Baptist Church and served many years as trustee of the church and L.P. Union Cemetery. He was instrumental in the building of the Church and its welfare, and during his lifetime he spend much of his time in keeping the Church together, and for the past few years had working with untiring efforts on the future of the Church and the Church's cemetery, and he will be long remembered for these deeds. He was a good neighbor, a devoted husband and father, and will be sadly missed by his family and his many friends, who know him in the community which he lived and loved.
