Blair, Emerson Burt
BLAIR, Emerson Burt (called Blair by his friends) was born Sept. 16, 1916 to Burt and Lydia Anna Schneider Blair in Jackson, Michigan. Blair married Mae Joyce Cooper June 21, 1951 in Meridian, MS. Together they had three children: Audrey (Jeff Southcott), Loveland, OH, Melissa Beard, Xenia, and John Blair, Beavercreek. He is survived by his children and six grandchildren: Kevin Blair, Ryan and Sarah Beard, and Blair (Sarah), John and Caroline Southcott. He is also survived by his great-grandson Payton (and soon-to-be-born twins Colin and Chloe) Southcott. Blair is also survived by Fred, John (Shari), Sallie and Tom Hicks. Blair enrolled at Jackson Jr. College in 1938 and was graduated from the University of Michigan in 1941. He enlisted in the Air Force in 1942. He would later earn his MBA at the University of Chicago. After his retirement from the Air Force in 1970, Blair taught mathematics at Stebbins High School in Dayton for seven years. Blair was a devoted University of Michigan alumnus. He enjoyed reading, watching movies, and visiting with his friends at Bethany Lutheran Village in Centerville; he especially enjoyed the camaraderie he had with his morning coffee group and his dinner partners. Blair often said that moving to Bethany Lutheran Village was the best move he ever made. He lived in Beavercreek for over 30 years before moving to Centerville. Blair was preceded in death by his wife Joyce, parents, and siblings Evelyn Blair Hicks and Stanley Blair. His family would like to extend a special thanks to Hospice of Dayton for taking such wonderful care of Daddy. Memorial service at Bethany Lutheran Village, please call 937-433-2110 for details. Burial at Draper Cemetery, Jackson, Michigan. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to Hospice of Dayton.
