The Reverend Donald D. O'Hara, 85, died January 7, 2010, at the Ralph Thorne Care Center, Wesley Towers, Hutchinson. He was born November 22, 1924, in Nickerson, the son of Dwight S. and Nina Anderson O'Hara. He was a graduate of Hutchinson High School, Southwestern College at Winfield, and Drew Theological Seminary at Madison, New Jersey.

He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II, serving for three years. For most of that time, he was an Ensign on the Destroyer Douglas H. Fox. His ship was severely damaged by a Japanese suicide plane in May of 1945.

He was a member of the Kansas West Conference of the United Methodist Church and had served as pastor of the following churches: Langdon-Lerado, Burr Oak, Munden-Haddam, Luray-Lucas-Vincent, Salina Grand Avenue, Salina Quayle, Sublette, Courtland-Montrose, Syracuse, and Lewis-Garfield. He retired in Hutchinson in 1989.

Survivors include: three sisters, Carrol Ann Rogers, Pretty Prairie, Dorothy Stagner, Ames, Iowa, and Kathleen Krob, Rochester, Minnesota. Also surviving are several nephews and nieces.

Reverend O'Hara was known as "the puzzle man." At one time he had 1,200 worked jigsaw puzzles displayed on the ceiling, walls, and floors of his home. He also had on display over 1100 wood, wire and plastic puzzles. He also enjoyed listening to classical music. He had traveled extensively to Europe, the Soviet Union, the Holy Land, and throughout South America. For vacations he had enjoyed the beaches of many Caribbean islands.

Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at the Wesley Towers Chapel, Hutchinson. Private burial will take be in Partridge Cemetery. Visitation will be from 1 to 9 p.m. Sunday and from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday at Penwell-Gabel Funeral Home and Crematory, Hutchinson. Memorial contributions may be made to the "Pass the Torch" Scholarship Fund in care of the Kansas Area United Methodist Foundation, 9440 E.
