Middle name may have been Isaac, Icabod or Edward. REV - Pvt 2nd GA Battalion commanded by Col. Samuel Elbert, Jan 1, 1779 to Dec 1, 1779. He received a grant for 287 1/2 acres on Flat Creek in Franklin Co, GA. He and his wife are believed to be buried at Mt. Carmel Methodist Church Cemetery in Gwinnett County, GA. JOHN ICHABOD PITTMAN, JR. WAS BURIED ON THE FAMILY PLANTATION OF ABOUT 75 GRAVES NEAR PINKNEYVILLE AND NORCROSS IN GWINNETT County, GA. THE LAST FAMILY reference TO THE EXACT LOCATION IS IN A 1911 LETTER FROM LUCY PITTMAN IVY WRITTEN TO THOMAS SCOBEY PITTMAN, GRANDSON OF JOHN ICHABOD, "YOUR GREAT GRANDFATHER, JOHN ICHABOD PITTMAN DIED IN 1831, BEFORE I WAS BORN. I DON'T KNOW WHY HIS SON DOES NOT TAKE CARE OF HIS GRAVE. [THE DEATH DATE MATCHES JOHN, JR, AND ALL HIS SONS WERE DEAD WHEN THIS WAS WRITTEN] HE IS BURIED ON THE CHATAHOOCE RIVER NEAR PINKNESVILLE IN GWINNETT COUNTY. I HAVE SEEN THE PLACE, IT IS ALL GROWN UP WITH PINES AND THERE IS ABOUT 75 GRAVES THERE AND NONE OF THEM KEPT UP." FAMILY CORRESPONDEncE OVER SEVERAL DECADES DISCUSS SEARCHES FOR THE SIGHT. GWINNETT COUNTY RECORDS LIST THE PROBABLE SITE AS WAITS CEMETERY, BEHIND 4003 EVERETT CT, TIMBERS SUBDIVISION, NORCROSS, GA, DISTRICT 6, LAND LOT 318, PARCEL 123 (J4 ON GWINNETT HISTORICAL SOCIETY MAP). THIS AREA IS NOW (1995) HEAVILY WOODED BETWEEN HOUSING SUBDIVISIONS. THERE ARE THREE WAITS TOMBSTONES SHOWING ABOVE GROUND. IN MANY PLACES, DEEP RECTANGULAR INDENTIONS, PROBABLY FAMILY GRAVES, ARE CAVING IN.

THE CASUALTIES SECTION OF THE SAME DOCUMENT SAYS "AT AUGUSTA." HIS PAYROLL STUB ENDING SEPT 1, 1779 HAS "DISCHARGED" IN THE CASUALTIES SECTION. HE RECEIVED A BOUNTY GRANT OF 287 1/2 ACRES ON FLAT CREEK (LATER CALLED BEAVER DAM CREEK) IN FRANKLIN COUNTY, GEORGIA (THE ORIGINAL IS NOW IN THE GEORGIA DEPARTMENT OF HISTORY AND ARCHIVES, CAPITOL AVE, ATLANTA). THE 12 NOV 1821 EXECUTOR'S DEED FOR THE ESTATE OF JAMES HARGROVE GIVES A NEW BOUNDARY FOR JOHN PITTMAN PROPERTY, "IN CONSIDERATION OF $250, CONVEYS 230 ACRES IN FRANKLIN County ON WATERS OF BEAVERDAM CR., ON WATERS OF GROVE RIV., GRANTED TO JAMES HARGORVE, DECEASED, ADJOINING KEYS. ALSO 109 ACRES, BOTH OF WHICH ADJOIN THE PITMAN TRACT WHEREON JAMES HARGROVE NOW LIVES."
