Bernard Meiste age 89, of Holland, died Friday, September 11, 2009 at an area care center.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Evelyn Meiste, a daughter, Mary Zylman, and a grandson, Nathan Kalkman.
Bernie was a member of Graafschap Christian Reformed Church and former member of Prospect Park Christian Reformed Church. He was employed by Roamer Boats and Steketee Van Huis and was a veteran of WWII serving in the Army.
He is survived by his children, Joan and Bart Kalkman of Holland, Bob and Corinne Meiste of Zeeland, Barb and Tom Elenbaas of Irons, Ed and Judy Meiste of Holland, Sue and Duane Berens of Hamilton; 23 grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren; Sisters, Caroline and Julius Sale of Holland, Shirley and Paul Houtman of Kalamazoo; in-laws, Josephine Meiste of Zeeland, Marvin and Doris Tubergen of Zeeland, Julie Meiste, Leonard Tubergen, Laura Essenburg, Marian and Jack Lundy, Henry and Oma Tubergen, Duane and Eleanor Tubergen all of Holland; many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, September 15, 2009 at Graafschap Christian Reformed Church, 5973 Church St. Holland with Rev. Henry Vanden Heuvel officiating. Burial will be in East Saugatuck Cemetery. Visitation will be 7-9 p.m. Monday at Langeland-Sterenberg Funeral Home, 315 E. 16th ST. Holland.
