Grace Alice Davis, oldest daughter of Winnie Etta and Edwin Davis, was born on a farm southwest of Chester on August 22, 1889. She departed this life at the Jones Rest Home in Belleville, Ks., August 3, 1960 at the age of 70 years and 11 months.

Her girlhood was spent in Liberty township (sic) where she attended the Liberty Center School and later she graduated from Chester High School. She also attended the summer Normal School in Belleville and taught four terms of country school.

As a young girl she became a member of the Chester Christian Church, later transferring her membership to the Methodist Church where she attended as long as her health permitted. She was an honorary member of the Woman's Society at the time of her death.

On May 3rd, 1910 she was united in marriage to Walter Moxham and their first few years were spent on a farm south of Chester. They later moved to Chester. To this union were born 11 children: four boys, Grant, Gerald, Robert and Richard; and seven girls, Margaret, Gertrude, Evelyn, Ethel, Betty, Virginia and Barbara.

She was preceded in death by her husband and infant daughter, Barbara. She is survived by her four sons, Grant, of Plainfield, New Jersey; Gerald of Omaha; Robert of Chester and Richard of Belleville; six daughters, Mrs. Walter Christensen of Sparks, Nev.; Mrs. Joel Braddock of Yakota, Japan; Mrs. Ezra Hybl of Omaha; Mrs. Jean Larkins of Chester, Mrs. Wm. Eberline of Des Mines, Ia; Mrs. Howard Greiss of Omaha; 27 grandchildren; four sisters, Mrs. Mae Lane of Alma; Mrs. Amy B. Jeffries of Denver, Colo.; Mrs. Helen Palmer of Chester and Mrs. Art Glasgow of Powell, Wyo.; and by a host of other relatives and friends. She was a living and devoted mother and sister, always doing something for someone, and had a very deep feeling for others less fortunate than herself.

The funeral service was held Saturday, August 6 at 2 p.m. at the Chester Methodist Church with Rev. Duane Hutchinson officiating. Singers were Mrs. Dolan Frye and Mrs. Max Larkins with Mrs. Floyd Haifleigh at the organ. Casket bearers were Floyd Coons, Harry Hunt, Frank Larkins, Joe Hunt, Dean Swaney and Ivan Swaney. Interment was in the Chester cemetery (sic). Bachelor-Faulkner-Dart Funeral Service was in charge of arrangements.
