OBITUARY - from Obit Central

Services for Duaine J. Sackett Jr., of Litchfield, will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday in Plummer Funeral Home with the Rev. Gary Allen of the First Baptist Church of Litchfield officiating. Burial will be in Cedar Ridge Cemetery at Honey Bend. Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday in the funeral home. The family suggests memorials be directed to the Litchfield High School Scholarship Fund. Mr. Sackett died at 5:09 a.m. Monday, December 27, 1999, in St. Francis Hospital. He was 78 years old on September 30, and an Army veteran of World War II. He worked for many years as a radio dispatcher with the Ltichfield Police Department. After his retirement he owned and operated Sackett Cab Company. During his military service he attained the rank of sergeant. He was an active member of the First Baptist Church of Litchfield, serving as Sunday school teacher and youth counselor. He enjoyed gardening as a pastime. He was born in Ltichfeild, a son of Duaine R. and Clarise Marie Lawrence Sackett. He married Phyllis Lorraine VanTheemsche in the First Baptist Church of Rock Island. She survives. Surviving also are sons, Robert Duaine Sackett of Worlan, Wyo., Dennis Lee Sackett of Peoria; daughter, Linda Lee Fry of Chasks, Minn.; sister, Darlene Murray of Pana; and three grandchildren. Preceding him in death was a brother, Loren Lee Sackett. Services for Duaine J. Sackett, Jr., of Litchfield, were held at 10 this morning in Plummer Funeral Home. The Rev. Gary Allen, pastor of the First Baptist Church of Litchfield, officiated. Burial was in Cedar Ridge Cemetery at Honey Bend. Organist was Michelle Sweet. She accompanied Shirley Edwards while she sang "What A Friend We Have in Jesus" and "Victory in Jesus." Members of the Litchfield Police Department serving as pallbearers were Jeff Davis, Gene Guinn, John Hodge, Lee Jarman, Darin McBride and Ross Wilson. Honorary pallbearers were William Dolahite, Earl Logsdon, John Thull, George Todt, Rex Trader and George West. A recording of "Onward Christian Soldiers" was played during the committal service at graveside. Military rights were held with Will Tackaberry, Bill Bates, Charles Cress, Lee Baker and Dave Allen representing American Legion Post 436, Larry Schneck, V.C. Chasteen, Joe Wilson, Phil Burdell, representing VFW Post 3912. Dave Allen presented the flag to Mrs. Phyllis Sackett. Kaci Becker played "Taps." Mr. Sackett, 78, died Monday, December 27, in St. Francis Hospital.
