The County Agent at that time (1818) was John Hargrave, whose business it was to superintend the affairs of the new town (Boonville). Being the chosen spot for the county seat, gave the place an impetus in the way of progress that for a time overcame all opposition from other or surrounding points that had hopes of some day being a town.
