Alice Josephine WASHBURN was born in Macomb, St. Lawrence Co., New York and was the youngest of the ten children of Nehemiah WASHBURN and Catherine THAYER. In the 1860's she along with with four other siblings (Horace, Levi, Edwin, and Charles Nehemiah) moved to Michigan as did many other people from the Macomb area. Her father moved there as well (probably after the death of Alice's mother in 1868), but moved back to Macomb, New York a few years later.
In 1868, the same year that her mother died, Alice married Alfred Tolford DURHAM (DURAM in some documents) on 1 Apr 1868 at Ravenna, Muskegon Co., Michigan. She and her husband lived in Ottawa, Michigan and had 6 children:

Alice died from pneumonia complicated by heart disease at the age of 46 on March 6, 1896. Her husband Andrew died three years before her.
