Sam grew up on the family farm on Hummel Road between Windy Point and Murrensville. He had 4 brothers and 4 sisters.
When his father's farm fell on hard times Sam and his brothers went to Tionesta with their teams to work in the timber industry. The Atwell family had a reputation of being divisive in church matters. They were involved in the division of several churches in the area.
Sam's brother, George, married his future wife's younger sister Susan in 1891. His sister, Margaret, had a great grandson, Doug Yard, that the family records say looked just like Sam.
Samuel "Sam" Robert Atwell married Matilda "Tilla" Albaugh in 1892. They had a son they named: Miles William Atwell.

Note: The grave photo for a "Samuel Robert Atwell 1869 - 1918" was taken in another cemetery and it is a different person. Someday the author will hopefully remove it as I have requested.
