Born in Sainte-Anne-des-Plaines in what was then still known as Lower Canada, Beaudry moved to Montreal at a young age and in 1834, opened a dry goods store with his brother. A devoted member of the Patriote movement against British control of Lower Canada, he was appointed a Vice President of the newly created Fils de la Liberté in 1837, however he was forced to flee to the United States with the outbreak of the Rebellion of 1837 and would not return until 1838. In 1860 he was elected a councilor for the city of Montreal and in 1862 was elected Mayor of Montreal serving until 1866. He was later re-elected to serve as mayor again from 1877 until 1879 and from 1881 until 1885. In addition, he also served on the Legislative Council of Quebec from 1867 until his death in 1886. His brother, Prudent Beaudry, served a term as Mayor of Los Angeles, California from 1874 until 1876. (bio by: G.Photographer)
