Kenji Doihara
Birth: Aug. 8, 1883
Death: Dec. 23, 1948

Japanese General. He graduated from the Imperial Japanese Army Academy in 1904. In 1912 Doihara graduated from the Army Staff College. After graduation, he was sent to China as a military attache. Doihara spent most of his early military career in China. In 1931 he, along with Colonel Seishiro Itagaki, was instrumental in engineering the Mukden Incident that led to the Japanese invasion of Manchuria. Doihara became known as "Lawrence of Manchuria" because of this. He was also intrumental in bringing in former Chinese emperor Pu Yi to be the ruler of Japanese occupied Manchukuo. Doihara would later command various divisions during the 2nd Sino-Japanese War of the late 1930s. In 1940 he became a member of the Supreme War Council. It was in this position on November 4, 1941, when he voted his approval of the attack on Pearl Harbor. During the Second World War, Doihara commanded troops in Malaya and Singapore. After the war, Doihara was arrested and tried for war crimes before the International Military Tribunal for the Far East in Tokyo. He was found guilty and sentenced to death. Doihara, along with 6 other military and political leaders, were executed by hanging on December 23, 1948. After the execution, his body was cremated and the ashes were scattered either over Tokyo Bay or the Pacific Ocean. (bio by: Mr. Badger Hawkeye)
