Funeral services for Mrs. J. E. (Charlotte) Melton, 83, of Oglesby will be held at 10 a.m. today (Thursday) at Scott's Funeral Home chapel. Burial will be in Restland Cemetery.
Mrs. Melton died at 8:30 a.m. Tuesday in a Gatesville nursing home.
The former Miss Charlotte Ashby, she was born in Coryell County on Oct. 10, 1890 and lived in this county most of her life. She had been an Oglesby resident since 1965. She was a member of the Church of Christ.
She married James Edward Melton on Nov. 8, 1908. He died in 1956.
Mrs. Melton is survived by four sons, Hiram Melton of Sweetwater, Delbert Melton of Oglesby, Norman Melton of Gatesville, and Ashby Lee Melton of Copperas Cove; five daughters, Mrs. Verna Wade of Fort Worth, Mrs. Vera Hurford of Woodson, Mrs. Frances Sims of Monroe, La., Mrs. Rachel Bundrant of Purmela and Mrs. Betty Bryant of Keller; four sisters, Mrs. Ethel Moore of Gatesville, Mrs. Mamie Jackson of McGregor, Mrs. Vera Todd of Waco,and Mrs. Annie Harris of Gatesville; 25 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren.
