Abel was born in Riggston,Scott,Illinois, the son of George and Nancy (Felton) Camp and the husband of Mary (Davis) Camp.

The death of Abel B. Camp occurred at his home, two miles north of Long Creek on Thursday morning at 4:30 o'clock.
His death was due to cancer, from which he had suffered for the past two years. Mr. Camp was one of the oldest and most widely known citizens of Macon county. He was aged 72 years and three months at the time of his death. He was born in Scott county on July 29, 1828.
He was the son of New England parents, his father having walked from Vermont to Illinois and after the first trip in 1820 broought his family west. Mr. Camp with a younger brother settled in Macon county in 1852. In 1857, he purchased the farm on which he has since resided. On February 20, 1853, Mr. Camp married Mary Davis, a daughter of Joseph Davis. The death of Mrs. Camp occurred March 24, 1891. The children are: Elacta P. Camp, who resides at home; Laura, wife of A.W. Heaton of near Long Creek; William P. Camp, who lives at home, Heber F. of Long Creek township, and Ernest D. Camp who resides at home. He also leaves three sisters, Mrs. Lucy V. Mosher of Canton, Mo., Mrs. Mary Rice of Jacksonville, IL., and Mrs. E.J. McCullough of Riggsville, Il. Mr. Camp was a member of the Methodist church of Long Creek and served as trustee steward and gave liberally to the support of his church. He cast his first presidential ballot for John P. Hale in 1852 and has since been a republican. The funeral will be held Friday at 11 a.m. from the Long Creek church and the burial will be at Long Creek cemetery. The services will be conducted by Rev. J.W. Groef.
