FORT MYERS PRESS, January 15, 1933 - Louis Thornton Powell, 73-year-old resident of Alva, died at 3 p.m. yesterday in the Lee Memorial hospital. Mr. Powell was stricken with pneumonia a week ago and was taken to the hospital here Friday.
Funeral services will be held at 3:30 p.m. today at the L. W. Engelhardt chapel. The Rev. C. T. Tew will conduct the service, while Mr. Powell's six sons, Will, Arthur Bruce, Ben, Irving and Elmer Powell will act as pallbearers.
Mr. Powell was born in North Georgia in 1861, the son of George W. and Susan Culpepper Powell. On May 18, 1881 he was married to Miss Marrietta Joyner.
Survivors include four sisters, Mrs. E. A. Weeks, Mrs. J. W. Yent and Mrs. Harry Scott of Fort Myers and Mrs. C. M. Bock of Tampa; one brother, C. J. Powell of Tampa; one daughter, Mrs. J. O. Ball of Miami; and six sons, W. M., A. W., E. K. and T. C. of Everglades and B. C. and R. B. of Miami.
