Sylvia Helen Meinhart was born at Hudson, Iowa on May 3, 1918, the daughter of James and Elizabeth (Rayman) Yuska. Sylvia attended school in Buckingham and later graduated from Hudson High School in the Class of 1935.
On April 18, 1945 Sylvia married Marvin Michael Meinhart and they made their home near Traer all their married life. In addition to caring for her family, Sylvia worked outside the home as a clerk at the Traer Coast to Coast Store. She later worked at the Meat Market and several other Traer businesses as a clerk and cook.
Following Marvin's death on May 29, 1966, Sylvia continued to make her home north of Traer and in 1996 retired after working over 30 years in community businesses.
In free moments "Grandma Goodie" loved to spend time with her grandchildren and family. She made afghans, quilts, and fancy work, which she shared with her family and fundraisers for her church. Sylvia was well known for her cooking and baking skills and enjoyed her flowers, plants, and birds.
Sylvia's death came peacefully at her home on Sunday, December 31, 2000 at the age of 82 years. She was a member of the Ripley United Church of Christ and was preceded in death by her parents, husband, a grandchild, Joy Marie, and one brother, Wesley. She is survived by her daughter, Carol (Mrs. Craig) Spencer of Marshalltown; two granddaughters; Jody Lane-Molnari of Marshalltown and Shawn (Mrs. Patrick) Johnson of Bloomington, MN,; two brothers, Leonard Yuska of Greenwood, IN, and Alvin Yuska of Manchester, IA; and two great-grandchildren, Jillissa Christine, and Hannah Madison.
