O. N. Hix, Gatesville oil company agent and rancher, died at 9:15 a.m. Friday in a Waco Hospital. He was 69.
Mr. Hix had been hospitalized nine days earlier after suffering a heart attack.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Sunday at the First Presbyterian Church and were conducted by Rev. Ralph O'Dell. Burial was in Restland Cemetery with Scott's in charge.
Mr. Hix was a member of the Gatesville school board from 1944 to 1963 and was president of the board for 16 years. During those years both the present elementary school and high school buildings were constructed.
Mr. Hix was also an active layman in the First Presbyterian Church.
He was born Aug. 17, 1905, in Bosque County and lived in Central Texas all his life. He married Miss Earlene Nesbitt
on Nov. 11, 1929, in Gatesville and they lived in Valley Mills before moving to Gatesville in 1934.
Mr. Hix had been in the oil business nearly 50 years. He also had farming and ranching interests, breeding registered Hereford cattle.
Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Miss Janis Hix of Gatesville and Mrs. James (Jean) Smith of Hamilton; three brothers, W. T. Hix of Gatetviile, Harlan Hix of Waco and Jim B. Hix of Golden, Colo.; one sister, Mrs. A. M. Bonds of Baytown; and two grandchildren, David Smith and Carroll Smith.
Pallbearers for Mr. Hix's funeral were his nephews: William
J. Hix, Walter Hix, Jim Hix, William A. Nesbitt Jr., A. M. Bonds Jr., Don Hunt and Steve Tindall.
