Christian was of Prussian descent, he was a native of Montgomery Co., Pennsylvania. Upon the death of his father, his mother married George Oberdorff and moved the family to Northumberland Co. when Christian was a child. When he was a young man of 22 years he married Catherine Straw of Adamsburg, Snyder Co. Christian moved his family to Juniata County in April 1830 when he was 42 years of age he moved to Susquehanna Gap, Juniata County where he remained the rest of his life. John and Catherine had nine children. He was a democrat and a respected member of the Lutheran Church. He served as an elder in his church. Source: Juniata County Biographical Encyclopedia 1897.
Records show that Christian is buried here but a marker is not present. Noah Zimmerman remembered seeing the grave stone in 1949, it has since broken off and been covered over.
