Rita Pease, 102, Oldest Resident of County, Dies

Mrs. Rita Pease, 102, Williams county's oldest resident and only centenarian, passed away Sunday in the Williams County Home in Jefferson Township, where she had resided for the past five years. She has no immediate survivors.
Mrs. Pease, a county native, was born April 8, 1858, approximately four miles southeast of Bryan on the old family homestead. She was the last of the 11 children and John and Catherine

Himes. All of the children lived to be at least 79 years of age.
The family was one of the pioneer groups in this area, moving here in 1841 - seven years before Bryan became an incorporated village. She was raised in this vicinity and became a seamstress.
On Dec. 18, 1881, she was married to Harry A. Pease, of Van Wert, and they went to Indianapolis where they lived nearly 40 years. They had no children, and Mr. Pease died in February, 1928.
Then Mrs. Pease returned here and lived a number of years with a brother, Warren Himes, until his death. She lived in Bryan seven years with a niece, Mrs. Leonard Davis, and went to the home five years ago after suffering a stroke.
Was A Good Patient
Although confined to her bed while at the home, she had always enjoyed good health for a person of her advanced years and was described by Mrs. Gordon Musser, matron, as a "fine" patient. She was content with her surroundings, and looked forward to her meals. She had all but two of her own teeth, and required minimum of medication.
She often remarked that "it doesn't pay to worry." She was an ardent bridge fan before her eyesight waned, and then she became interested in listening to the radio, particularly news broadcasts.
The body is at the Greensisen Funeral Home in Bryan, where services will be conducted at 8 o'clock this evening with the Rev. S. Glen Cameron officiating. Burial will take place Wednesday at the Crown Hill Cemetery, Indianapolis.
