Our beloved mother and grandmother, Marie Caroline Warnecke (Storhaug) passed away peacefully on December 5th, 2009 at Woodwinds Hospital in Woodbury, Minnesota. An inurnment service for family and friends will be held in Spring 2010 at Moorhead Memorial Gardens in Moorhead, MN.
Marie was born on August 13th, 1922 in Thief River Falls, Minnesota, to the late Haakon and Olga (Windsnes) Storhaug. She was a 1940 graduate of Lincoln High School and spent her early adult years working in Thief River Falls. On June 4th, 1947, Marie was married to the late Oswald Carl Warnecke at the American Lutheran Church in Fargo, ND. Thereafter, they raised their family and lived in the Moorhead area. She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Oswald in 1978, her four brothers: Harold, Vernon, Robert and Roy Storhaug, and her grandson, Scott Warnecke.
Marie is survived by her daughter, Nancy Olivieri of Woodbury, MN; Bernita Jean Wilson (Donald) of Tustin, CA; Douglas Warnecke (Joan) of Harwood, ND; seven grandchildren: Rochael Teynor (Mark) of Missoula, MT; Justin Olivieri (Amy) of Waconia, MN; and Josef Olivieri of Woodbury, MN; Michelle Warnecke of Fargo, ND; Wade Wilson (Vivian) of Walnut Creek, CA; Eric Wilson (Christina) of Foothill Ranch, CA; Dane Wilson (Debbie) of San Clemente, CA; twelve greatgrandchildren: Amanda Warnecke, Isabella and Sophia Olivieri, Joshua, Zachary, Alex, and Lucas Teynor, Olivia, Sarah and Emily Wilson, Robert and Sebastian Holmberg; and many nieces and nephews.
Throughout her life, Marie enjoyed sewing, knitting and crocheting, baking, and gardening. We have fond memories of her plentiful garden, her holiday treats, and her handmade gifts. Her family was her life and she enjoyed spending time with them whenever possible.
In her retirement, she knitted afghans for sick children and their families who reside at the Ronald McDonald House in Minneapolis. We will all miss her kindness, gentle nature, and "high-spirited determination."
