Bertha married JESSE JAMES CARPENTER on March 16, 1915, the son of JOHN WESLEY CARPENTER and MELISSA SAMPSON. Jesse was born on December 8, 1885 in Summerfield, Marshall County, Kansas, and died on December 1, 1952 in Superior, Nuckolls County, Nebraska.

Her home was Webber, Kansas, and she was the daughter of Mr and Mrs. Frank handley, living near Ida, northeast of Munden. A husband, one little son four years old, father, mother, four brothers and one sister, and other friends are left to mourn her early departure. The body was brought to Munden and laid to rest in the Ida cemetery, near her girlhood home.

She was the mother of three children, two of whom died in infancy, and Harold Laverne, who is now four years of age. She departed from this life on May 16, 1922, aged 32 years, 8 months and 11 days. She leaves to mourn her loss a husband, a son, a father, mother, four brothers, Ralph, Ross, Floyd and Alvin, one sister, Mrs. Pearl Eisenman, of Mankato, Kas., besides a host of relatives anf friends. Early in life she was converted and joined the Methodist church of which she was a faithful member at the time of her death. She was always kind, considerate, noble and true, and her life was an inspiration to her family and friends. She will be greatly missed, but we rejoice to know that when on the resurrection morning when God calls, we shall see her once more. When there will be no more parting or sorrow.

And your loss we deeply feel,
But 'tis God that has bereft us,
He can all our sorrows heal.
